Le paquet/The Parcel

Parce que j'aime les défis, j'ai pris le cours d'animation de marionnettes durant ma deuxième année d'études universitaires, et parce que je suis aussi un peu cinglée, j'en ai profité pour faire un film complet. Je n'y serais jamais arrivée sans l'aide précieuse de tous mes amis et collègues; Посылка (prononcer "paseelka") a une épouvantable fiche de problèmes techniques, je vous épargnerai les détails... et pourtant, il roule encore sa bosse, tout seul, comme un grand.

Because I like challenges, I took the Stop-Motion Animation class during my second year of university studies, and because I'm also slightly insane, I jumped on this occasion to direct a complete film. I wouldn't have been able to do it without my friends' and colleagues' precious help; Посылка (pronounced "paseelka") has an horrifying list of technical problems, I'll spare you the details... but it's still running in festivals, on its own, like a big boy.

Lucien, Superstar (2007)
 

Ce court-métrage est le résultat de ma première année de baccalauréat en animation de films à l'université Concordia. Il y avait de très grosses contraintes: tourner le tout sur pellicule 35mm et ne pas utiliser d'ordinateur, sauf pour le son, et ce, en trois mois seulement; un suicide assuré. Pour être sûre de finir à temps, j'ai pondu ceci, qui m'a valu ensuite mon premier prix dans un festival et qui a fait un petit tour du globe.

This animated short is the produce of my first year of my BFA in Film Animation at Concordia University. There was huge constraints: shoot the whole thing on 35mm film, no computers allowed except for sound, and be done within three months, a real suicide. To make sure I would finish on time, I came up with this, which won me my first prize in festivals and toured the globe a bit.
 
 
 
 
 
 

Fou tu (2005)
Fool ed

Mon tout premier film d'animation, Fou tu, a été réalisé en tant que projet de fin d'études en dessin animé au cégep du Vieux Montréal, sur une durée d'environ un an et demi, entre les autres devoirs et les beuveries obligatoires de tout bon cégepien. Malgré le temps passé et l'expérience acquise, je le trouve encore regardable... il faut bien commencer quelque part, non?

My very first animated short, Fool ed, was created as a senior project during my studies in Traditional Animation at the cegep du Vieux Montreal, over a period of approximately a year and a half, in-between other homework and the obligatory nights out of any good college student. Despite its age and the experience I have now, I still find it watchable... we have to start somewhere, don't we?
 
 
 
 
 
 
 

Le grand saut (2009)
The Great Jump

Ça, c'est plutôt un coup de chance, un exercice d'animation qui a bien tourné. Réalisé sous la thématique "la joie troublante de tomber", Le grand saut est l'un des quatre projets d'animation de ma troisième année à Concordia, mais le seul que je juge réussi. J'avais un mois et demi pour tout faire, du concept à la post-production. Bien que je ne le considère pas comme un film en soi, il représente assez bien ce que je voudrais faire professionnellement.

This is more a stroke of luck, an animation exercise that turned out well. Created under the theme "the disturbing joy of falling", The Great Jump is one of four animated projects I had to make during my third year at Concordia, but the only one I deem successful. I had a month and a half to do everything, from concept art to post-production. Even if I don't consider it an accomplished film, it represents well enough what I'm aiming for professionally.

Samantha Leriche-Gionet

Née à Montréal, Canada en 1985, Samantha décide de se lancer dans l'animation après une visite fatidique au studio de Walt Disney World, à l'âge de sept ans. Il lui a fallu attendre dix ans de plus avant de pouvoir finalement s'y essayer en faisant des études en dessin animé au cégep du Vieux Montréal. Elle finit présentement son baccalauréat en beaux-arts, spécialisation en animation de films à l'université Concordia. Elle aime les lapins, les coupes de cheveux bizarres et le Pepsi Diète.

Born in Montreal, Canada in 1985, Samantha decides to become an animator after a fateful visit at Walt Disney World's studios, at age seven. She had to wait an extra ten years to finally try herself at it, by studying Traditional Animation at the cegep du Vieux Montreal. She is currently finishing her Bachelor in Fine Arts, Major in Film Animation at Concordia University. She enjoys rabbits, weird hairdos and Diet Pepsi.
